Happy Easter from all at Global Premier Villas! Now don’t eat your Easter eggs all at once because this week we’ll be taking a nonstop tour round the most historic and beautiful cities in the world. It’s culture week!
A couple of weeks ago I was able to get away from the never-ending winter in the UK and went to Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic. The first thing that struck me when I entered the famous ‘Old Town’ centre of Prague was the huge Disney-like ‘Church of Our Lady before Týn’ which was lit up fantastically in the moonlight.
When I went on a tour around Prague I learnt about the long and fascinating history of Prague, including various mythical stories that all seemed to involve severed body parts! For those who may be less interested in the gruesome history Prague engulfs itself in, there are hundreds of spectacular buildings and works of architectural genius. Perhaps the most superb and famous feature in Prague is the Astronomical Clock. Dating back to 1410, the ‘Orloj’ consists of 3 main components: the astronomical dial which displays the position of the Sun and Moon in the sky, a calendar dial with medallions representing months and the hourly ‘Walk of the Apostles’ where hundreds of people gather every hour to see the moving sculptures and to hear the trumpeter’s call.
Whilst Prague is an awesome city, I’ve barely skimmed the surface as far as European culture is concerned, let alone stunning cultural cities further afield. Cities to visit in the near future would have to include Berlin and Marrakech. Regarding Marrakech, I feel it would seem like a completely different world, it would be fantastic to have just a glimpse of an entirely different way of life.
Where would you suggest I go next on my tour of the world’s culturally captivating cities? Have you been anywhere intriguing or inspiring, a place that seemed a world away from home?
Thanks again for reading,
